Doubtful income, is it permissible to use?

Question:

As-salaam Wa Alaikum

I have a family member who gamblers. He gave my mom a sum of money to use, is it acceptable for her to used?

Answer:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

If he does not have any halal source of income, then it is highly possible that the monies given to your mom will be from the source of gambling. In this case, it will not be permissible for her to accept it. If the person has a means of income (which is halal) and you strongly believe that the monies given are from the good source of income, then your mom can accept it. If you are doubtful as to which source it came from (in the case where the person has a good means of income), then your mom should refrain from accepting it ( on account of doubt).
