Ummah of Dawud (as).
Q. I would like to ask a question related to the four books that Allah has sent to the Prophets: Tawrat – This is the revelation that Allah sent to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him); Zabur – This is the revelation that Allah sent to Hazrat Dawud (peace be upon him); Injeel – This is the revelation that Allah sent to Hazrat Eesa (peace be upon him); Quran – This is the revelation that Allah sent to Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him). The main question is: Is Dawud’s (pbuh) ummah still alive in this earth? If they are alive, are they among one of us, and if they are not alive, where are they and how has the ummah disappeared?
A. I have not seen or heard about the existence of the Ummah of Dawood (AS) on the earth at present. Seeing that every new prophet is supposed to be accepted by the people of his time, it is possible that the followers of Dawood (AS) accepted and followed the other prophets who came to them while they were alive. In this way, some of his Ummah would have died (out), and others would have accepted the prophets who came after Dawud (AS). As such, today we do not have any such nation who are referred to as ‘the nation of Dawud (AS)’. Instead, there are many people from the Ahl Kitab and the Muslims, who continue to believe in Dawud (AS) as a prophet of Allah.
And Allah knows best.
