Muslim groups singing songs.
Q. In Trinidad there are Muslim groups singing songs. This group had performed on I.B.N. Is this type of music halal?
A. Singing Islamic songs is permissible as long as the words and meaning do not bring about acts of shirk or wrongdoing. However, the use of musical instruments is not allowed (it is not halal). The only allowance which has been given by some scholars is that one side of the small drum (called the duff – tambourine) be used. Besides this, other instruments will be prohibited.
