Question on Haidh and Istihadhaa
Assalaamu Alaikum, I usually see my menses for more than 10 days, usually the first 2 day or so I spot just a few drops, in mind 15 days clean, I start my menses after that which takes me my complete 10 days heavy or ending sometimes and into a 2 to 3 days finishing istihadha. =15 blood. Is this right?
Secondly, up to which duration of the day can I fast if the menses ending, will fast be valid an hr or 2 before Zuhr or is there a specific amount? Jazaak Allaah.
Wa Alaikum Assalaam,
الجواب و بالله التوفيق
In the case you have mentioned, your menses will only be 10 days from the day you started to see blood/spotting. After 10 days are complete from this day, the blood flow/spotting you see for the rest of days will be Istihadhaa. In this state of Istihadhaa, you have to observe the fast and perform Salah.
In order to have a valid fast, you need to start from the break of dawn with purity right until sunset. If at any time during the day you happen to be in the state of menses, then that day’s fast will not be valid.
However, if your menses end during the day (after you had started the day from the break of dawn in the state of menses), then you should refrain from eating/drinking anything for the rest of the day. There is no specific amount of the day or time (of the day) which must remain in order to abstain from eating and drinking. Even if you achieve purity immediately after the break of dawn (Fajr time), you are required to stay away from eating/drinking for the rest of the day. However, it is to be noted that this abstention is not regarded as a fast. You will need to make Qadha fast of this at a later time.
