MUA’DHIN DOING I’TIKAF
Question:
The Mua’dhin in our Masjid wishes to do the Sunnah I’tikaaf this coming Ramadhan. However, in order to call the Adhaan five times per day, he will be required to come out of the I’tikaaf area and go to the microphone to call the Adhaan (which is outside of the prayer area). Will he be allowed to do so ?
In a similar manner, a brother also wants to do I’tikaaf in our Masjid, however, he does Imamat in another small Masjid. Would he be allowed to leave the I’tikaaf area/Masjid every day to go and lead Salaat in another Masjid? What shall be done?
Answer:
Yes, the Mua’dhin will be allowed to call the Adhaan even though it will require him to leave the prayer area.
With respect to the brother who is an Imam elsewhere, then it is not allowed for him to leave the Masjid every day to go and lead Salah there. Rather, he should perform his entire I’tikaaf overthere seeing that jamaat (congregration) is established there. If however, he is unable to do so, then he should appoint another person to lead the Salah in his absence.
If while doing I’tikaaf, he leaves to go to the other Masjid to lead Salah, then his I’tikaaf will become nullified seeing that this isn’t a necessity which allows one to exit the Masjid whilst in I’tikaaf.
