I will like to know if I put the GTN tablet under my tongue while fasting, if the fast will be broken. This is normally used when people experience angina (heart pain). It gives them some relief.
Wa Alaikum As Salaam,
If while observing the fast you put the GTN tablet under your tongue for heart pain, then your fast will be broken.
The reason is that when this tablet is placed under the tongue, it dissolves and goes into the throat with the saliva, and this is what breaks the fast.
The same is the ruling for the Nitromint spray which does the same as the GTN tablet. When the spray goes under the tongue, it mixes with the saliva and then goes down the throat which breaks the fast – This is what I personally experience when I use the GTN tablet and spray.
If you are a heart patient who experiences angina pain while observing the fast, then you can use the GTN patches which are available. You can attach this on your arm or your chest and it will give you the same benefits as the GTN tablet.
