Regarding the Aqeeqah and shaving the baby’s head, how do I calculate the amount of charity to be given?
ANSWER:
Wa Alaikum As Salaam,
You need to weigh the hair, and whatever weight it is, you will give that weight of silver or its equivalent in cash in charity.
For example, if on the 7th day, when you shave the hair of the baby’s head, it weighs 5 grams of silver, then you have to give 5 grams of silver in charity.
At present, the price of 1 gram of silver is $5.20 TTD. So, the value of 5 grams of silver (which is the weight of the hair) will be 5 (grams) x 5.20 TTD which is equal to $26.00 TTD. Therefore, you will give $26.00 TTD in charity on behalf of the child.
