Awrah of a daughter.
Q. What is the awrah of a daughter in the presence of her father, mother, sister, brother, uncle and aunt? Is it permissible for a father or mother to enter the delivery room to witness their daughter give birth? What about a sister?
A. The following parts of the body of the daughter can be viewed by those who are related to her by blood, that is, those who are her Maharim:
The face, the head, the ears, neck, chest, shanks, the upper arms, the feet.
The above allowance is in the case of the blood related males, as such the father, brother, uncle, son, can view the above parts of the daughter or any such women who are connected to them through blood.
Note that cousins and in-laws do not fall into this category.
All the other parts which includes the back, belly, thighs etc. will be considered as awrah and must not be visible to the above mentioned list of family members.
With respect to the parts of the body (of the daughter) which can be seen by the mother/sister, some scholars have given the same ruling as the above without any further allowances. However, many of them (scholars) have stated that besides the area from between the navel to the knee, all the other parts of the daughter’s body can be seen by the mother and sister. It is only that specific area which will be considered the awrah for the daughter while in front of the mother or sister.
Regarding the second question, NO, it is not permissible for the father, mother or sister to enter the delivery room to witness the daughter or any other woman giving birth.
And Allah knows best.
