is qurbani compulsory on me?

Assalamu Alaikum,

Someone asked me if they are not working and is a single parent, and has a small savings for emergency purposes. Is qurbani compulsory on him? What is the reply? Jazakallah Khair!!

 

 

Wa Alaikum As Salaam

If during the days of Qurbani, the savings are lower than the Nisaab, then Qurbaani will not be compulsory on him. If however, his savings have reached the Nisaab, then Qurbaani will be essential upon him. The Nisaab is presently $2,066.55 TT.
