QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

As per the latest fatwa published by the Darul Uloom, regarding the ruling on burying Muslims among non-Muslims in a public cemetery, will this ruling also apply to those cemeteries that are completely sectioned off for Muslims. Eg the Arima cemetery where there is an entire Muslim section?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

In many public cemeteries in our country, the Government has allocated an entire section only for Muslims. Although it is a part of the large and wider cemetery, yet it is totally separate and independent. Therefore, this is acceptable, and Muslims can be buried in the Muslim section of such cemeteries when there is no fixed Muslim cemetery available for burial.
