Buying food where alcohol is served.

Q. I would like to know if there is anything haraam with respect to muslims buying in a place that has halal food but they serve alcohol. For instance in resorts like Salybia Nature Resort where there is a bar, can we still eat there? Please provide proof from Quraan and Sunnah where needed.

A. Places that sell alcohol are involved in haram activities and are thus propagators of sins. It does not befit a Muslim to visit such places even though it may be to purchase halal food. The environment in such places is one that is filled with indecent and immoral actions especially where there is a bar. Everyone knows the type of people you find in a bar.

The Holy Quran has clearly ordered the believers to help and support each other in piety and goodness and they must not help and support that which is sinful and unlawful. It is clear that when one purchases Halal food from such places, then they are actually helping and supporting these shops/restaurants.

The Prophet (S.A.S) also informed us to stay away from such places where sins are committed. At these places, due to the fact that intoxicants are sold and consumed, sins are committed to a large extent. Muslims should therefore refrain from purchasing their halal food from such places.

And Allah knows best.
