CAN A MUSLIM ATTEND A WEDDING IN A CHURCH?

QUESTION:

As Slaamu Alaikum,

A very good friend of mine who is now a revert needed some guidance. Her brother is getting married and the ceremony is in a church. Will she be allowed to attend or is this strictly haraam? Jazak Allah Khair.

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

Many Un Islamic practices take place at weddings held in a church. Along with this, ‘words of prayer’ and songs incorporate statements of shirk which one will witness and be a part of, when he/she goes to the church for the ceremony. On account of these, it will not be permissible to attend the ceremony which will be held in the church.
