QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

If one doesn’t do the Aqeeqah for a child when he is born and then the child grows up as a man, can he still do the Aqeeqah?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

Al Jawaab wa Billahi-At Tawfeeq,

Yes, it will be permissible for him to do his own ‘Aqeeqah if it was not done for him. However, it should be noted that this action of ‘Aqeeqah is not essential upon a person but rather commendable (Mustahabb). As such, if done, he will be rewarded and if left out, there will be no harm.
