Assalaamu Alaikum Mufti,

When it comes to marketing online for items, there are often a lot of material that can be used. However,  music is often used in the marketing videos for the items etc. I wanted to know if we have to silent the videos before posting them to avoid the displeasure of Allah. If there was any alternative in this manner as I know the music is supposed to be for the purpose of gaining the attention of the customer but if it is silent then it will be easily passed over. Any other Halaal marketing guidelines would also be appreciated.

Answer:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

Music and Musical instruments are forbidden In Islam, and one is not allowed to use them for any purpose.  Therefore, you should avoid using it in the marketing of videos for items when you have the ability to avoid it.

If you are using a marketing video which has already been made for items with music in it, then you can silence the music in the video as much as you can, before posting them, or use such videos that have sounds besides music, which can catch the attention of the customers. Using such marketing videos with created sounds (free of music) can be a good alternative.
If the marketing videos are already made with music and you cannot get an alternative to replace them, then you can lower the music or silence them, since your main objective is marketing the product and not the music.
