Cutting of Cake at a Walimah
Quetion: Assalamu Alaikum.
Is the cutting of a wedding cake at a walimah permissible?
Answer:
Wa alaikum As Salaam,
The mere act of cutting a wedding cake at a walimah is permissible. However, the custom of cutting wedding cakes at wedding ceremonies is a non Islamic custom which Muslims must avoid. The custom is not only about only cutting a wedding cake. Instead, there are things involved in it which make it not permissible. In this practice, the bride and groom stand before the gathering. Then one cuts the cake and puts it into the mouth of the other in front of the public. All eyes of the strangers are upon the girl with pictures being taken one after the other. All these are totally unacceptable in Islam and hence, must not be done by Muslims.
And Allah Knows Best.
