EASE FOR WORRY AND ANXIETY
Question:
As Salaamu Alaikum,
I have been feeling worried for ages and I cant stop overthinking and sometimes I try to think positive but it keeps coming back. I feel anxious what do you recommend?
Answer:
Bismillahi wa billahi at Tawfeeq
Wa Alaikum As Salaamu,
We are sorry to hear that you are going through such a trying period in your life, and we pray to Allah most high that he grants you his divine assistance.
People experience such emotions for different reasons, and as such it is important to identify what is causing you to feel, the way that you do. Yes, there are many things that you can do to remove worry and anxiety but you also need to deal with what is causing it in the first place.
The Darul Uloom offers counselling services which maybe of benefit to you. We highly recommend that you avail of this service, if possible.
You haven’t really provided any details so our recommendations are regarding grief in general. However, practising on these recommendations will In Sha Allah bring you some ease:
- One major cause of grief and worry, is sins. Human beings are prone to making mistakes. Hence, when we sin we should hasten to seek forgiveness. As a matter of fact, Islam teaches us that making abundant istighfar, removes grief and worries.
- Sometimes we feel anxiety, because of something that we may have done in the past. Only by making up for those mistakes, can we move forward. If we have ever wronged someone, or done something that was inappropriate, then we need to make amends for that.
- Sometimes we overthink things because of Satanic whispers. The Shaitan, through his whispers, seeks to trouble and misguide the believers. These are baseless assumptions and imaginations which are far from reality. If one is plagued by such Satanic whispers, then he/she should seek refuge in Allah by saying : “ Audhu Billahi Minash Shaitan Ar Rajeem”. In addition, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas may be recited. Thereafter, completely ignore those whispers and pay absolutely no attention to them.
- Make abundant ‘zikr’ (remembrance of Allah).
- Read about the difficulties that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) went through. When we read about the trials that these great personalities went through, perhaps we will find it easier to deal with our challenges.
- Keep the company of righteous and positive minded people.
- Most importantly, turn to Allah, the most High for his assistance, by regularly supplicating to him.
And Allah Knows best
