Can you please explain the word ‘We’ when referring to Allaah swt.?

Question:

In the english translation of the arabic in the Quraan, there is the word ‘We’ when referring to Allaah swt. Can you please explain the word ‘We’ when referring to Allaah swt.?

Answer:

In the Arabic, there is a plural for numbers and also a plural for respect. As such the word ‘We’ could refer to more than one person and it can also refer to one person, however because of respect shown to this person the word ‘We’ would be used.
So wherever the word ‘We’ is used for Allah, it refers to Him alone being One, however, out of respect it is used. This is part of the Arabic language which has been used in this manner for thousands of years. It is for this reason, no one from among the Arab Christians or Jews have ever used it against the Muslims.

And Allah knows best.
