Feeding dogs and cats.
Q. Please explain what is the law of feeding dogs and cats poppy chow/cat food, taking into consideration that the chow/food consists of beef/chicken in it (maytah).
A. Carrion (maitah) is impure and unlawful. It is not permissible to use, nor is it permissible to feed animals with it. It also cannot be solds or purchased, since it is an impurity.
Based on this, it will not be permissible to use ‘poppy chow’ or ‘cat food’ which contains maitah (carrion) to feed the dogs and cats. (Fatawa Rahimiyah vol. 6 pg 250).
