QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

I am engaged to a man and was advised to wait till after ramadan to marry him. But we are anxious and would like to marry now regardless of the presence of ramadan soon, and feel it would be harder to wait. Is the impending presence of ramadan a good enough reason to delay the match of a young woman when it has been found? Jazaak Allah.

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

There is no reason to wait until after Ramadhan. There is no significance in doing this, and also no requirement in Islam to wait until after Ramadhan to marry. In fact, according to the teachings of Islam, as soon as a good match is found for a young woman, she should be married. Therefore, as soon as it is possible to marry, then do so, and there is no need or reason to wait until after Ramadhan.
