How should one use Black seed?

Message: Is it allowed to attend the jummah for the purpose of listening to the kutbah only, while on mensuration?

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

The black seed is very beneficial and a cure for many diseases. In fact, it is reported from Abu Hurairah (R.A) that the Prophet (S.A.S) said, ‘Black Seed is the cure for all diseases except death’. (Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah and Ahmad).

According to the Scholars, there is no particular method for using black seed as a healing agent since there is no authentic text of hadith regarding the method of its use and dosage. However, some Muslim health experts have written the following:

‘The seeds collected from the market should be washed with water to remove dust and dirt, then dried in sunlight and preserved in a bottle. Later on, the dried seeds may be pulverised, and a small portion can be mixed with food or drink. Whole seeds can be used as a dressing on salad. Their oil may be used in cooking, as food or as a wetting agent in mashed potatoes or other vegetables. The water in which seeds are soaked overnight may be used as nasal drops to be put into nostrils to get rid of nasal congestion and common colds. Overall, black cumin seed appears to be a very safe herb, with no side effects or known toxicity. For the treatment of AIDS, it is recommended that the user take no more than 50 to 75 milligrams daily for about three months; 7-10 seeds every day, crushed and taken with water or honey, may be enough. And Allah Knows Best.
