IS IT PERMISSIBLE TO TAKE PART IN A SUSU?
QUESTION:

 Is it permissible to take part in a susu?
ANSWER:
Wa Alaikum As Salaam
 Sou Sou is about pooling people’s money together and then giving the total amount to the contributors one after the other, at different times. It is not an investment, nor a sale.
It is simply a way that may help people save money, and is free from interest. Therefore, it is permissible in Islam.
It must be noted however, that whenever a person collects the total amount (based on the total amount of contributors) then he must keep on paying his fixed weekly amount until he completes the payment of that ‘Sou Sou’. He cannot collect his amount (when his turn to receive arrives) and then leave off the Sou Sou when he is still required to make contributions. He must keep on contributing until that cycle comes to an end.
