Getting married to an atheist.

Q. I would like to know, if it is okay for a Muslim to attend a wedding of another Muslim who does not practice Islam, and is marrying someone who is an atheist. What should be done in this case, especially if that Muslim is a family member, should I not attend the wedding, or attend so that my family member won’t get offended? What would be the best Islamic thing to do?

A. Marrying someone who is an atheist is totally Haram in Islam, and there would be no marriage between the two parties.

My advice to you is that you should not attend the wedding, It is essential for you to boycott such Haram practices, and this is the Islamic thing to do.

Those who disobey Allah and reject the teachings of the Quran must never be supported in their Haram (unlawful) activities. Your presence at such weddings will show your support for them, and your absence will show your dislike, and this is what is required for a Muslim to do in these situations.

And Allah knows best.
