What is the process of naming a new born child?
Question:
What is the process of naming a new born child? Can we give any meaningful and beautifúl name or we have to consult a peer or a pious person? Then this peer tell us, that name is heavy on him and we should name him a light name? (this is very general practice in indian sub continent) is this practice is according to Shari’a?
Answer:
Salaam,
This practice is not according to the Shariah. When a child is born, it is the parent’s responsibility to give a good, meaningful name. It is good if the parents consult an Alim or a pious person to suggest a name, but this is not essential.
