Qadha fasts before perfoming Hajj.
Q. I am planning to perform the Hajj this year. However I was told by a Scholar that if I have Qadha fasts outstanding that I have to make up these fasts before performing the Hajj. Is this true? I have missed approximately 6 months in total of fasting to make up for due to pregnancy and nursing. Hajj is due to start in less than 6 months. Can I simply pay the Fidya and this will suffice?
A. If you have Qadha fasts outstanding and you wish to perform Hajj, then it is not a condition upon you that you must make up for all these fasts before performing the Hajj. The issue about Qadha fasts is that one should do his/her best to make up for these Qadha fasts as soon as possible. However, this does not mean that ‘the making up of these ‘Qadha fasts’ is a condition for the performance of Hajj. You are therefore allowed to go ahead and perform your Hajj, although you have Qadha fasts to fulfill.
As long as you are able to observe the fast (at present or in the future), you will not be allowed to pay fidya for these fasts. Paying fidya will not suffice for these fasts which you have missed as long as you can do the fast.
And Allah knows best.
