QUESTION:
As Salaamu Alaikum,
In 2014, my husband went to do his first Hajj, and he went with a Mufti.  Unfortunately, he was not told that with his small amount of hair remaining from his Umrah, he cannot use a zero trimmer after Hajj, but must have it shaved. My husband, after the Umrah had his longer hair cut, but after Tawaaf Ziyaarah, which was about 3-4 days later he had it cut with the zero trimmer.  After recently reading the Fatwa, https://darululoomtt.net/shaving-head-during-hajj-and-umrah/, my husband wants to know how to correct the wrong .  We are Inshaa Allah going again this year, please keep us in your pious Duas, so should he pay a Dum?  Does he have to pay multiple dums, since there were many things he did after he thought he was completely out of Ihram. He probably didn’t get another haircut until three months later.  Please advise.
ANSWER:
Wa Alaikum As Salaam,
May Allah accept your Hajj and Umrah and grant both of you the full rewards for these.
The Mas’ala is exactly as you have read on the Darul Uloom site ad as such, your husband must pay a dum.
Although he would have done many things which amounted to mistakes and violations, he will be required to pay only one dum, and this will suffice for all the mistakes seeing that everything occurred due to his one misunderstanding.
In this regard, the Jurists have written, ‘If the person in Ihram (Muhrim) came out of Ihram and did what a person out of Ihram will do, thinking that he was out of Ihram, then only one dum will be binding on him for all the mistakes he made, since the things he did (wrong) were all connected to his one action. And Allah Knows best
