Timings for Asr salaah.
Q. I have noticed that some people pray Asr Salaah from as early as 3:30 pm. Can you please explain how the timing for this salaah is calculated? When does the time start and when does it end? Do we have until sunset to pray?
A. According to some of the Imams of Jurisprudence namely Imam Shafi, Malik and Ahmad, the beginning times for Asr Salaah is when the shadow of an object becomes one of its length which is approximately 3:30 pm local time.
Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) is of the opinion that Asr time begins when the shadow of an object becomes twice its length.
The four above mentioned Imams of fiqh all agree that the time of Asr salaah lasts until the sun has completely set.
