I need to understand the difference between the four Imams and which one is rite to follow?
Answer:
Wa Alaikum as Salaam,
The differences between the four Imams are basically connected to Fiqh, and according to all scholars from the early centuries of Islam until today, the four of them and their respective Mazahib (schools of thought) are upon the truth. In fact, their schools of thought represent the Fiqh of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
A person can chose to follow any one of them and will be right. However, once one has chosen to follow one particular Imam, he must not ‘pick and chose’ between the opinions and verdicts of the Imams by randomly selecting that which is convenient. One should fear Allah in this matter and refrain from this conduct. Following an Imam of Fiqh is indeed following the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah in the way it was taught by the pious predecessors.
