USAGE OF ZAKAAT MONEY

QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum

Is it permissible to build a toilet and bathroom with zakaat money to a healthy person who is working but is in need of it? جزاكم الله خيرا

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

Zakaat money cannot be used to build a toilet and bathroom for a person even if he is in need of it. If the person is deserving of Zakaat because of his needy state, then he should be given Zakaat money and he can do whatever he wants with it.

If he is not deserving, then Zakaat money should not be given to him. Similarly, if a person is healthy and is working and can take care of his basic needs, then he should not accept Zakaat even though he may not possess a nisaab.
