QUESTION:
As Salaamu Alaikum
Would doing your obligatory Qurbani overseas be permissible?
Please advise.

ANSWER:
Wa Alaikum As Salaam,
It will be permissible for you to do your qurbani overseas, however, it is more virtuous and better to do it in your country where you can be a part of your own Qurbani. The Messenger have exhorted his daughter Fatimah (RA) to be part of her Qurbani and said to her, ‘O Fatimah! Come and witness your sacrificial animal (being slaughtered), for surely, by the first drop of blood that falls on the ground, there will be forgiveness for you for every sin. It will be brought with its blood and flesh and will then be placed on your scale of deeds multiplied by 70 times’. (Targheeb Wat Tarheeb Hadith No 3 Vol. 2 page 160 Dar Al Fajr At Turath).
When one does Qurbani at his own place (country), he is able to witness his sacrifice being done. He takes part in the slaughtering, sacrificing and the distributing of its meat, and is also able to partake of his Qurbani animal which he offered to Allah as a sacrifice.
On account of this, he achieves all the blessings, rewards and benefits which the Messenger of Allah (S.A.S) spoke about. However, when one sends his money to a foreign country to do Qurbani, he becomes deprived of being directly involved with his own sacrificial animal, and is not able to slaughter/sacrifice, distribute and even eat from this blessed sacrificial animal which he offered to Allah.
