IS A WITNESS NECESSARY FOR TAJDEED-E-IMAAN?

Question: 1

As Salaamu Alaikum,

If someone did something which makes him/her out from the fold of Islam in front of one individual so is it compulsory to do taubah and tajdeed-e-imaan (renewing the faith) in front of that person he said those kufriya words to?? Taubah and tajdeed-e-imaan (renewing the faith) alone isn’t sufficient?? That person with weak imaan may find it weird in his point of view so isn’t it allowed to do taubah and say shahada of our own alone?? Please reply as soon as possible.

Bismillahi Wa Billahi At Tawfeeq

Yes, his taubah will be accepted In Sha Allah, once it is done sincerely.

You mention that the person who heard the words of kufr is not very knowledgeable with regards to Islam. We would advise you to not let that be a reason, to avoid speaking to him about this situation.

It maybe, that this individual who does not know a lot about Islam may now think that it is ok to say such words as a Muslim, when in reality it is not permissible to do so. Therefore, we strongly advise the brother in question to speak with this individual.

He should make it very clear to him that such words should never be uttered by a Muslim. It was inappropriate for him to do so, and therefore he has made taubah. He should also ask that individual to make taubah as well, if he has entertained similar thoughts.

In Sha Allah, Allah will reward you for your efforts.

Question: 2

What if he won’t inform him about his taubah and tajdeed-e-imaan? If he won’t do that, his taubah will be accepted or not? also the person (in front of whom the words of kufr was expressed) is not knowledgeable person he knows only few things about Islam… PLZZ reply!!!

Taubah and tajdeed-e-imaan can be done in the absence of any witnesses. Having witnesses present is not a condition for the validity of making taubah. Nor is it a condition for tajdeed-e-imaan.

However, the person in question may inform the individual (in front of whom the words of kufr were expressed) regarding his/her tajdeed-e-imaan at a later time, so that he/she may not have any negative thoughts about him/her. Additionally, it may serve to educate that individual regarding the seriousness of uttering such words and discourage him/her from making similar statements.

And Allah knows best.
