Qadha Salaah.

Question:

Would my Salaah be valid if I perform it after its time since I am in transit during Asr and Maghrib. And if so, when I Qadhaa my Salaah, what should I recite when making my intentions?

Answer:

According to the teachings of the Holy Quraan and the blessed traditions of the Prophet (S.A), Salaah has been fixed with time and must be performed within the period which has been allotted for it. It is not permissible to delay it after its time. To do so is a great sin and brings about total neglect of one’s duty to Allah.

If a person has failed to perform a Salaah on its time then it becomes compulsory upon him to perform it as soon as he can do so even though the time has ended. This is known as ‘qadha’ and it is hoped that through its performance, he may be absolved from the sin of neglecting the Salaah on its time.

In performing the qadha Salaah, one must have a firm and clear intention in his heart as to which particular missed Salaah is now being offered as a deferred Salaah. If he wishes, he can also state his intention verbally.

It must be noted that it is not permissible to perform any Salaah at the times when the sun is rising, when it is directly in the middle at noon and at sunset. It is also undesirable (makrooh) to perform any Salaah after a person has performed the Fajr Salaah until fifteen to twenty minutes after the sun has risen and also after he has performed the Asr Salaah until the sun has set. Besides these times, Qadha Salaah may be performed at any other time.

And Allah knows best.
